LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Watch out world, Garfunkel & Oates might be coming to your living room to satirically soft-rock you soon.
IFC has given the green light to the pilot "Garfunkel & Oates," starring the comedy-folk duo Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, who operate under the surnames of rock's most famous second bananas.
The scripted pilot centers on the aspirations and misadventures of the pair. Spotlighting the personal and professional lives of Lindhome and Micucci, the pilot will look at how their chosen career of singing satirical and occasionally dirty songs distances them from their peers and bonds them in solidarity.
The "Garfunkel & Oates" pilot will begin production in Los Angeles next month, with Abominable Pictures' Jonathan Stern ("Children's Hospital") producing.
"Garfunkel & Oates" is but one project among three pilots and eight scripts - all scripted comedies - in a development slate announced by IFC on Wednesday. The network has also ordered the pilot "Timms Industrial Piping," a stop-motion animation project filmed with baby dolls set in a Wisconsin town that's dependent on the success of an industrial piping company. (Seann William Scott and "Breaking Bad" alum Giancarlo Esposito are among the voice talent for the project.)
A third pilot,"International Plan," revolves around a pair of newly single guys who form an invaluable friendship while traveling the world in search of love. The project, which is written by and based on the lives of "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" pair Michael Blieden and Eric Ledgin, begins production this month in Stockholm.
Among the eight scripts that IFC has ordered, "Two Idiots," created and written by "Will & Grace" vet Megan Mullally and Tina Kapousis, is of particular note. The project follows a pair of odd women raised in an old world Beverly Hills hotel whose simplest everyday undertakings fly absurdly off the rails, with their beleaguered butler and a shared boyfriend in tow.
