The Mobile Marketing Association's guidelines will help retailers and other marketers track results.
With the use of mobile coupons growing, the Mobile Marketing Association has introduced new mobile coupon ad unit guidelines to help retailers and other marketers connect their mobile media ad spend with a point-of-sale event. By making it easier for marketers to track results from the top of the funnel where the media spend takes place all the way down to the redemption of an offer, the MMA hopes the new guidelines will help marketers better demonstrate the effectiveness of mobile marketing and, thereby attract a bigger percentage of advertising budgets. Retailers and consumer packaged goods brands are likely to be the heaviest users of the new standards.

Changes to Facebook's News Feed feature take a "mobile first" tack, with focus on photos and multiple feeds.
Facebook has announced significant changes to its News Feed feature. The changes, which will start rolling out to users soon, aren't just about making the site look cleaner (and more Google+-like) or increasing the size of photos. It's about giving you more options than you could possibly want for how to view content on Facebook. For example, for the first time in a long time, Facebook is actually making some of those feeds chronological. "All Friends," "Following" and "Photos" will appear in the order they came in, although this is still an experimental arrangement.

The evolution of BYOD at Cisco continues as the company considers a "bring your own laptop" component.
Since implementing a BYOD model, starting with mobile phones in 2009, network giant Cisco has managed to lower the costs per staff member by 25%. Prior to 2009, Cisco had a very traditional corporate model for devices, with staff issued BlackBerry devices. The company shifted its policy to allow staff to begin accessing email, contacts, and calendar via the iPhone in 2009. By 2012, Cisco had added virtualization as an option for staff who needed to access their desktop from any device in any location. This year, the company is looking to go one step further, and launch bring your own laptop for certain staff members.

Growth in the amount of NAND flash memory in smartphones and tablets is slowing this year.
Memory capacity per cellphone so far has declined to 12.8GB on average in the first half of this year, compared to 13.2GB at the same time in 2012, according to a sampling of handsets and tablets studied by the IHS iSuppli Teardown Analysis Service. Such a decline comes in stark contrast to the nearly threefold increase that took place between the first half of 2011 and 2012, when flash memory in phones surged from 4.6GB to 13.2GB. Mobile device brands increasingly are offering their own application ecosystems and online storage benefits that perform the same functions as onboard NAND flash.
